Jessica Lang is a graduate of The Juilliard School with BFA ('97) in dance. Prior to graduating, Jessica became a member of Twyla Tharp's company, "THARP!" where she performed in major dance festivals around the world. She also worked with Ms. Tharp in her "Diabelli Project" which premiered in Palermo, Italy in 1998. Jessica has since been a member of The Peridance Ensemble (dancer and rehearsal director) and currently performs in projects with Phrenic New Ballet.Lang's choreography is being performed around the US and has toured abroad including in South Africa and Japan. She was one of two finalists for the first National Choreographic Competition hosted by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and was given the opportunity to create a piece for Hubbard Street II. Since this experience in 1999, Lang has gone on to create work for companies including New York City Ballet (selected for the Choreographic Institute), Pennsylvania Ballet, American Ballet Theatre's Studio Company, Phrenic New Ballet, The Juilliard Ensemble, The Ailey/ Fordham Program and commercially for BMW International Industrials. She has worked for Cirque Du Soleil where she serves as the choreographer for auditions. Most recently, Lang won the Choo-San Goh award to create a new work on Richmond Ballet. The piece entitled, A Maiden's Hymn, will be seen on PBS in a special about Richmond Ballet. Ms. Lang was Artist in Residence for Barat Conservatory where she taught classes in Modern, Dance Composition, and Dance Improvisation. Ms. Lang has taught and coached all over the world including at the Tanzsommer Festival in Innsbruck, Austria, at Erika Akoh Ballet Studio in Japan, at the University of Wyoming, and at American Ballet Theater for its Studio Company. She also teaches at Kaatsbaan for the Extreme Ballet Summer Program under the direction of Martine van Hamel and at Perry-Mansfield in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She has been on faculty at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Upcoming commissions include residencies at Bucknell University and Princeton University, and a new work for Dallas Black Dance Theater. |
